The Benefits of Using SMS Paints

Since our initial release in 2016, we have been working hard to fine tune and perfect our paints so that anyone of any skill level can pick up an airbrush and paint like a pro.

But what really makes SMS Paints different and why should you give them a go? Let’s go into some more details of what they can do for you and your hobby!

Airbrush Ready

Gone are the days of needing to thin your paint - the SMS range has been specifically designed to be airbrush ready out of the bottle. All you need to do is give the bottle a good shake to mix back in the settled pigment, then pour it into your airbrush and spray in light coats at 15psi from around 5cm away from your piece.  

Durable

Acrylic Lacquers dry to a hard, durable finish with excellent adhesion to plastics and other common modelling materials. As the paint is solvent based, it will soften the plastic ever so slightly and bond with it, so when it dries, it becomes part of the plastic itself meaning it is less likely to chip, scratch or lift off if applied correctly.

Fast Drying

Solvent based paints like Acrylic Lacquers naturally dry fast. The solvents evaporate quickly once they are atomised through the airbrush, leaving the pigmented paint resins behind. Touch dry in minutes, fully cured in 12 to 24hrs (dependent on environmental conditions).

Easy Cleanup

Clean up is simple – just flush your airbrush with Acrylic Lacquer / General Purpose Thinners! The thinners will dilute the residual paint in your airbrush to allow it to be flushed through by spraying. And if any SMS Acrylic Lacquers dry in your airbrush, just add some thinners – the solvents will reactivate the dried Acrylic Lacquer and then you’ll be able to flush it through as well!

Strong Pigmentation

The SMS range has a very strong pigmentation compared to viscosity of the paint, meaning that you’ll be able to get good coverage with minimal coats – making your paint last longer!

Specialty Finishes

We have a wide range of specialty colours outside of our Premium range. Metallics, Effects, Pearls, Colour Shifts - we have a plethora of unique and interesting colours in our range that you will not find in any other hobby paint range.
